Eight pieces, all of them on the shelf two metres from where I am standing.

Everything here has been fired, sanded, photographed and priced. When a piece sells I take it off this list the same day, because none of it can be remade — the glaze will never sit in exactly that way again, and I would rather lose the sale than promise a copy.

“We sell her vessels to people who have never bought craft before, because she prices them honestly and photographs the flaws.” Ruth, Copenhagen

About seconds

The cheap shelf, explained.

Seconds are pieces with one real flaw: a glaze that crawled, a foot ring that is not quite level, pinholing the size of a lentil. They are structurally sound and food safe unless the line in the table says otherwise, they cost between thirty and sixty per cent less, and I describe the flaw in the piece's own line rather than in a footnote.

My teacher in Montelupo used to say that a pot with a scar tells you a potter was paying attention. I would rather sell you a good bowl cheaply than pretend it came out perfect.

Packing and post

How it reaches you in one piece.

Double cardboard, wood wool, and a lot of tape. No plastic, no polystyrene — I have never found a way to recycle either of them properly, so I stopped buying them. Collection from the studio is free and I will make you a coffee.
