What we leave out

Eight things that are in no Halo product.

If a product has burned you before, check its label against this list first.

Fragrance / parfum The most common cause of contact allergy in cosmetics, and the hardest to spot — the single word "parfum" can stand in for dozens of undeclared compounds.
Essential oils Lavender, citrus, tea tree, peppermint. Natural, pleasant, and still fragrance as far as your skin is concerned.
Drying alcohols Denatured alcohol and ethanol above 5%. Fine in a toner for oily skin; not something we would put in a barrier cream.
Synthetic dyes CI numbers. In a leave-on product they change the colour of the cream and nothing else.
Harsh sulfates SLS and its close relatives strip the lipids that hold water in. Our surfactants foam less and cost us more.
Parabens Not because the evidence says they are dangerous — it does not — but because our customers ask us not to, and our preservative system works without them.
Phthalates and formaldehyde releasers Formaldehyde is banned outright as a cosmetic ingredient in the UK. Releasers are permitted within a limit. We use neither.
Mineral oil Occlusive without being breathable. Squalane and caprylic/capric triglyceride do the same job with less congestion.

Full INCI lists for all seven formulas are on each product page, percentages included.

Where most people start

Three products, no decision fatigue.

Full range is eight. These three cover cleanse, moisturise and protect.

All eight products

The routine

Three steps, two of them in the evening.

No toner, no essence, no ten-step anything. Adding products is how most people break their own skin.

Evening

Cleanse

Quiet Cleanse Gel on dry hands. Massage for twenty seconds, rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry with a clean towel. Do not rub — friction is a trigger.

Morning and evening

Moisturise

Daily Barrier Moisturiser onto skin that is still slightly damp. Damp skin takes up more of it, so you need less — about a pea for the whole face.

Morning

Protect

Mineral SPF 50 Fluid last, every morning it is light — including a Glasgow February, and including the days you never leave the house.

Customers

What people say after eight weeks.

"Two products, eight weeks, and I have stopped keeping a spreadsheet of what broke me out."

Priya · Leeds · bought Daily Barrier Moisturiser

"My dermatologist read the ingredient list, said 'that is fine, keep going', and went back to writing."

Callum · Dundee · bought Quiet Cleanse Milk

If you are not sure, ask us before you buy.

Tell us what your skin does — what stings, what flares, what you have already tried — and we will answer with one recommendation, not a bundle. If you would rather not write it out, four questions will get you most of the way there.

Consultations are written by the people who make it, usually within two working days.
