Daily Barrier Moisturiser
Everything in it
Fourteen ingredients, and what each one is doing there.
Percentages are by weight of the finished formula. The same list, in INCI order, is printed on the carton.
| Ingredient | What it is and what it does | Concentration | % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aqua | Purified water — the base everything else is dissolved or suspended in | 62.0 | |
| Glycerin | Humectant, plant-derived — pulls water into the upper layers and holds it there | 8.0 | |
| Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride | Fractionated coconut oil — a light emollient that gives the cream its slip | 6.0 | |
| Squalane | Olive-derived, not shark-derived — restores the oils that cleansing removes | 5.0 | |
| Cetearyl Alcohol & Ceteareth-20 | A fatty alcohol, not a drying one, plus its emulsifier — thickens the cream and holds the oil and water phases together | 5.8 | |
| Niacinamide | Vitamin B3 — supports the barrier and evens out redness over months, not days | 3.0 | |
| Panthenol | Provitamin B5 — soothing; reduces the tight feeling after washing | 2.0 | |
| Sodium Hyaluronate | Hyaluronic acid salt, low molecular weight — holds water at the surface without drawing it from deeper skin | 1.0 | |
| Ceramide NP | A skin-identical lipid — replaces the ceramide a damaged barrier is short of | 0.5 | |
| Cholesterol | A skin-identical lipid — works with the ceramide; skin needs both in roughly this ratio | 0.3 | |
| Tocopherol | Vitamin E — antioxidant; protects the oils in the formula from going off | 0.2 | |
| Xanthan Gum | Fermentation-derived gum — texture and stability; stops the cream weeping in the bottle | 0.2 | |
| Sodium Benzoate & Potassium Sorbate | Preservative system — stops mould and bacteria growing in a water-based product | 0.6 | |
| Citric Acid | pH adjuster — sets the finished formula at pH 5.4 | trace |

What it is
A light, unscented moisturiser built around the three lipids skin makes for itself — ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids. It sinks in in about forty seconds and leaves no film, which is the point: anything that sits on top of reactive skin tends to be the thing that irritates it.
Fourteen ingredients, pH 5.4, no fragrance of any kind — not even a masking agent to cover the smell of the raw materials.
Why the preservative is not "natural". Sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate only work below pH 5.5, which is why every Halo formula sits at 5.4. They are food-grade preservatives, they are not parabens, and an unpreserved water-based cream is a bacteria culture with a nice label.
